Treatment of the week: Laser hair removal
The sun’s out, which means it’s time to peel off those layers and bare some flesh. Great news unless, like me, you are troubled by excess hair.
I’ve had enough of shaving rashes and painful waxing, so I’ve decided to have ipl laser hair removal.
I’ve been told I’ll need six treatments spaced six weeks apart (to match hair growth cycles) and compared to a lifetime of six-weekly waxing sessions at £30 a time, it seems a snip.
It works by firing a laser at the hair follicles (right), killing or disabling them. It offers permanent hair reduction, ridding you of a good percentage of your hair, and what remains will be finer.
But having both of my arms lasered took less than 15 minutes.
After the procedure I had only a bit of reddening, which faded within a couple of hours. The regrowth is soft and patchy. Two weeks after the treatment, the regrowth fell out and I barely need to shave.
It claims to be suitable for all skin types and tones – but not for blonde or white hair.
